This was one of the few hikes I have done
south of Sandpoint (ID). Chilco Mountain is located northeast of
Coeur D' Alene (ID) approximately 30 miles, and it overlooks the valley where
Silver Wood Theme Park is located. The hike was only 2 miles one way, but
I thought it was somewhat strenuous. This may be due to the fact that I
had just done Chimney Rock (West Route) the previous day, but who knows.
Anyway, I should quick complaining and be thankful I am able to
hike at all.
- The trail was fairly well maintained
but did contain deep ruts from what appeared to be dirt bikes. Anyway, I
made it to the top where a old lookout tower once stood. To the south you
could see south Chilco mountain, and to the north the southern tip of Lake Pend
Oreille was in view.

Mountain, or Chilco Mountain #2 as the map says, is actually part of the
Chilco Mountain National Recreation Trail.
