- Statistics:
- Date Hiked: September 26, 1998
- Miles Hiked: 6.0
- Elevation Gain: 400'
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 1,650'
- Hiking Partner(s): Brendon Chaney, Payton
- Description:
- The Green Monarch Ridge is located
across Pend Oreille Lake to the south of Hope (ID). The scenery was
spectacular with the mountains shooting almost 3,000' vertical feet out of the
lake. To get there you have to drive down to Clark Fork (ID) and cross
Johnson's Creek. Although the elevation gain is moderate, it was slightly
more difficult than one would initially think because of the cumulative elevation gain
(1,650') with the
undulating ridge.
- The trail became brushy in areas, but
never unable to find or follow. Anyway, the views of Lake Pend Oreille
from Green Monarch Ridge and Green Monarch Mountain were exceptional and I would
certainly recommend this hike.

- Photographs:
- This is Lake Pend Oreille from the top of
Green Monarch Mountain.
- This photo was taken to the northeast towards Clark Fork (ID). The "Driftwood
Graveyard", which really isn't visible, is located at the mouth of the
river and is designed to catch all of the driftwood so that it isn't floating
all over the lake.
