- Description:
- We have reached October and the
season of Fall.
On this occasion, I overlooked the fact that although it may be comfortable at
2,000' in Sandpoint (ID), it may not be at 5,000'. Brendon and I got skunked on this hike, but not as bad as I
originally thought after making it to the lake via the south route in 1999.
- The trailhead had very little snow on
it, so we figured it couldn't be that bad and started up the trail. I
refused to wear pants while I was hiking, and that didn't make matters much
better. After about 2 1/2 miles and 2 1/2 frost bitten
toes, we wondered if we were going to find the lake. The trail wasn't
extremely difficult and we felt we were close, but when it came down to it, we
valued our appendages more than Harrison Lake.
- We had our lunch and quickly returned
to the Trooper. I think that Payton was actually disappointed and thought
we were wimps. I did manage to get a few nice photos of the area.
