- Statistics:
- Date Hiked: October 17, 1998
- Miles Hiked: 2.5
- Elevation Gain: 1,200'
- Hiking Partner(s): Brendon Chaney, Payton
- Description:
- Although Gem Lake is a relatively short
hike, it does gain 1,200' in 1 1/4 miles. This hike is located close to Lake
Estelle, Moose Lake, and Blacktail Lake. When we departed from the Trooper, it was
a very pleasant morning, and by the time we reached the lake, the snow was
coming down moderately. We had learned a significant lesson from Harrison,
and I actually wore pants.
- We got a little chilled by sitting
around and eating, so we scrambled around on some rocks for a while before
packing up and calling it a day. For some reason, Payton really enjoys the
snow and did some sledding on the way back down. When we returned to the
trailhead it was very nice again with no snow.

the area where this hike is located.
- Photographs:
- I can only assume that this is what Harrison Lake would have looked like had
we made it there on the 3rd. Anyway, here is Gem Lake.
- It appears as though I was contemplating whether or not to go for a quick
swim in Gem Lake. Nice denim and flannel.
